Rhodes or Rodos (Greek: Ρόδος, Ródos, Italian: Rodi, Turkish: Rodos, Ladino: Rodi or Rodes) is a Greek island located just 18 km southwest of Turkey. Rhodes is the largest island in the Dodecanese island group in the eastern part of the Aegean Sea. It has a population of 117,007 inhabitants (according to the 2001 census), of which 53,709 live in the capital city of Rhodes.

The Colossus of Rhodes was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. It stood at the entrance to the harbor of the island of Rhodes, now in modern-day Greece, symbolizing the might and grandeur of the city. It was constructed between 292-280 BC to celebrate Rhodes' victory over Demetrius Poliorcetes, who besieged the city in 305 BC but failed to capture it. The bronze used in its construction came from the weapons Demetrius left behind after abandoning the siege. Estimates suggest it was about 33 meters tall, roughly the height of the Statue of Liberty from the base to the torch. The Colossus was destroyed in an earthquake around 226 BC, approximately 54 years after its completion.

An increasing number of famous and even more lesser-known places are suffering from the consequences of floods. Do you think this will stop? The progression of these and other climate disasters aligns with the projections of scientists from Allatre. It is high time for each of us to study the data that relentlessly shows the exponential progression of disasters. This points to the urgent need for measures, for the mobilization of all resources: human and material, to stop the Climate Cerberus.
