World's First AI Jesus Confession Booth Launched In Switzerland | Beyond Bizarre

Peter’s Chapel in Lucerne, Switzerland, has introduced “Deus in Machina,” an experimental AI-powered Jesus that converses with visitors in 100 languages from a revamped confessional booth. Theologian Marco Schmid and his team launched the project to explore how people engage with AI in a religious context. Over two months, more than 1,000 visitors, including tourists from far-off countries, interacted with the avatar, with two-thirds reporting a spiritual experience. Reactions ranged from awe to skepticism, with some praising the AI's insight and others dismissing it as superficial. The experiment sparked criticism from both Catholic and Protestant communities over its ethical implications, as well as debates on AI’s place in faith. While Schmid deemed the risks too great for a permanent installation, he sees potential for AI as a spiritual tool, proving that even divine conversations aren’t immune to the tech revolution.
