Cyclone Fengal: Red Alert For India's Tamil Nadu, Puducherry Amid Very Heavy Rainfall | Firstpost Earth

Cyclone Fengal is forecasted to make landfall on November 30 late at night between the Karaikal and Mahabalipuram districts of the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu. According to the Indian Meteorological Department, the storm is expected to hit with a wind speed of 70-80 kilometres per hour, gusting up to 90 kilometres per hour. Areas including Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Kallakurichi, Cuddalore districts, and Puducherry are bracing for heavy rain. The Chennai airport has been briefly shut. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin took stock of the situation and said that necessary precautionary measures are underway across all the coastal districts. Authorities have advised residents to move to safety. The fishermen in the region have also been advised to stay off the coast. Parts of the southern state of Andhra Pradesh are also likely to receive heavy rainfall.
