** Psalm 122 is a song of ascents, written by David to celebrate the joy of worshiping in Jerusalem-the spiritual and cultural heart of Israel. David reflects on the unity of God's people, the centrality of worship, and the importance of peace within the city. His words call believers to rejoice in the privilege of gathering to honor Yahweh and to pray for the prosperity of Jerusalem, a city symbolic of God's presence and justice.

This blues song, "Peace in the City of Praise," brings David's psalm to life with depth and soul, capturing the psalm's timeless message of worship, unity, and divine peace.

** Psalm 122 (World English Bible)

A Song of Ascents. By David.
1 I was glad when they said to me,
"Let's go to Yahweh's house!"
2 Our feet are standing
within your gates, Jerusalem-
3 Jerusalem, that is built as a city that is compact together;
4 where the tribes go up, even Yah's tribes,
according to an ordinance for Israel,
to give thanks to Yahweh's name.
5 For there are set thrones for judgment,
the thrones of David's house.

6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem.
Those who love you will prosper.
7 Peace be within your walls,
and prosperity within your palaces.
8 For my brothers' and companions' sakes,
I will now say, "Peace be within you."
9 For the sake of the house of Yahweh our God,
I will seek your good.

** Lyrics to "Peace in the City of Praise"

(Verse 1)
I heard the call, it made me smile,
"Let's go to Yahweh's house, walk that holy mile."
Our feet stand firm, within these gates,
Jerusalem calls, it's where my heart waits.

(Chorus)
Oh, peace in the city, where the tribes all rise,
Prayin' for Jerusalem, under God's skies.
Prosper in her palaces, let love abide,
Oh, peace in the city, where the Lord resides.

(Verse 2)
A city compact, built tight and strong,
The tribes go up, singin' Yahweh's song.
Thrones of justice, where judgment's made,
David's house stands firm, where truth won't fade.

(Chorus)
Oh, peace in the city, where the tribes all rise,
Prayin' for Jerusalem, under God's skies.
Prosper in her palaces, let love abide,
Oh, peace in the city, where the Lord resides.

(Bridge)
Pray for her peace, let her walls hold tight,
Let her palaces glow, in Yahweh's light.
For my brothers, my friends, I'll always say,
"Peace be within you, every night and day."

(Verse 3)
For the house of God, I'll seek her good,
For the sake of His name, as He said I should.
Jerusalem, city of praise and grace,
God's presence shines, in every space.

(Final Chorus)
Oh, peace in the city, where the tribes all rise,
Prayin' for Jerusalem, under God's skies.
Prosper in her palaces, let love abide,
Oh, peace in the city, where the Lord resides.

(Outro)
I was glad when they said to me,
"Let's go to Yahweh's house, where we are free."
Oh, peace in the city, let it never fade,
Jerusalem stands, where prayers are made.
