President says for first time that his country could cede land temporarily in exchange for protection of a ‘Nato umbrella’. FROM SKY NEWS:
Volodymyr Zelenskyy has suggested a ceasefire deal could be struck if Ukrainian territory he controls could be taken "under the NATO umbrella" - allowing him to negotiate the return of the rest later "in a diplomatic way".

In an interview with Sky's Stuart Ramsay, the Ukrainian president was asked to respond to media reports saying one of US president-elect Donald Trump's plans to end the war might be for Kyiv to cede the land Moscow has taken to Russia in exchange for Ukraine joining NATO.

Mr Zelenskyy said NATO membership would have to be offered to unoccupied parts of the country in order to end the "hot phase of the war", as long as the NATO invitation itself recognizes Ukraine's internationally recognized borders.

FROM THE TELEGRAPH:
Zelensky says he would be willing to cede Ukrainian territory to Russia for first time | Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky indicated a willingness to temporarily cede territory to Russia to end the war. He suggested Ukraine could accept a "Nato umbrella" for the areas still under its control. This would allow for a possible diplomatic negotiation for the return of eastern territories currently held by Russia after a ceasefire.

Zelensky emphasized the urgency, stating, “If we want to stop the hot stage of the war, we should take under [the] Nato umbrella the territory of Ukraine that we have under our control.” He clarified that full Nato membership, which could deter future Russian invasions, has been rejected by Putin as part of any peace deal. Zelensky ruled out ceding all territory for full membership but acknowledged that he hasn't received any offers regarding partial membership.
