AR-0117: The "Bloodfist" films were one of the most prolific DTV [direct-to-video] B-grade action movie franchises of the 1990s, providing a steady paycheque to legendary kickboxer Don "The Dragon" Wilson as he maintained a career as a B-grade action star in the 1990s.

This ninth film in the series is the only one not to feature Wilson, instead being a futuristic remake of the original "Bloodfist" set in 2050AD Los Angeles [being portrayed by Manila] and starring Matt Mullins in the protagonist role as army deserter Alex Danko arrives in LA [if you think it's a hellhole now, wait another quarter century!] to visit his pitfighter brother, only to find him dead. Only way to flush out his killer is to take his place on the pitfighting circuit.

If you've seen the original Bloodfist, you'll instantly know your way around the plot of this one as the remake follows the plot beats of the 1989 original faithfully. In terms of quality, it is also about the same, being considerably weak and PREDICTABLE to the extreme, along with some bad logic. Fights are pretty good, though, so there's that for the fans. This also has plenty of skin, the most out of this franchise, and this was the very last film of legendary Filipino director Cirio H. Santiago, who used a pseudonym.

My Grade: D+ [Disappointing]
