Every night Tux WHINES at the front door multiple times until (or if) we go out for a walk. Each time he wants to venture farther and farther away. The good thing is that he's always sure to double-back the way that he came, so I'm getting a bit more confident that he's figuring out how the building and its immediate yard is laid out.

My fear has always been that he's going to get himself up into a tree and not be able to get down safely. This was the first time that he's climbed a "real" tree here (other than one of the short bushy things), and he was able to navigate it just fine. But in the process I've seen just how fast he can run when he wants to, and it's FAST. I really, really have to hope that he's not going to be forced to do so, like by running into an off-leash dog being walked. That's why for the time being that we're going out so late.

The other half of the building is a mirror image of our half, so once he finds his way to the other exterior staircase, to him it's going to look exactly like, but not be, ours. Assuming that we keep going out like this, it's not clear how he's going to get his head around that. It took him a number of weeks to figure out that the symmetry of each of the floors in OUR staircase stack were different, and that our door was (only) on the top floor.
