Psalm 108: Glory Over All the Earth Blues

** Psalm 108 is a song of faith and triumph, composed by David as a declaration of unwavering trust in God. This psalm is unique because it combines parts of two earlier psalms: Psalm 57:7-11 and Psalm 60:5-12. David penned these words to remind Israel-and himself-that God's steadfast love and faithfulness endure even in the face of challenges. It reflects David's deep desire to exalt God's glory above the heavens and call on Him for deliverance and victory. As a warrior and a worshiper, David's words inspire us to rely on God's strength when human effort falls short.

This blues adaptation captures the Psalm's essence: God's greatness, His promises to His people, and the assurance that through Him, we can do valiant deeds.

A Song. A Psalm by David.

1 My heart is steadfast, God.
I will sing and I will make music with my soul.
2 Wake up, harp and lyre!
I will wake up the dawn.
3 I will give thanks to you, Yahweh, among the nations.
I will sing praises to you among the peoples.
4 For your loving kindness is great above the heavens.
Your faithfulness reaches to the skies.
5 Be exalted, God, above the heavens!
Let your glory be over all the earth.
6 That your beloved may be delivered,
save with your right hand, and answer us.

7 God has spoken from his sanctuary:
"In triumph, I will divide Shechem,
and measure out the valley of Succoth.
8 Gilead is mine. Manasseh is mine.
Ephraim also is my helmet.
Judah is my scepter.
9 Moab is my wash pot.
I will toss my sandal on Edom.
I will shout over Philistia."

10 Who will bring me into the fortified city?
Who has led me to Edom?
11 Haven't you rejected us, God?
You don't go out with our armies, God.
12 Give us help against the enemy,
for the help of man is vain.
13 Through God, we will do valiantly,
for it is he who will tread down our enemies.

** Lyrics for "Glory Over All the Earth Blues"

(Verse 1)
My heart is steadfast, O Lord above,
I'm gonna sing, gonna wake the dawn with love.
Harp and lyre, come on, make some noise,
I'll praise You, Lord, with all my voice.

(Chorus)
Be exalted, O God, high above the skies,
Your glory shines, Lord, far and wide.
Your faithful love-it'll never fade,
Your truth reaches where the heavens are laid.

(Verse 2)
You spoke from Your holy throne on high,
"Shechem is mine, and so is Succoth's sky.
Ephraim's my helmet, Judah my scepter strong,
Moab's my washpot-I've ruled all along."

(Bridge)
Who will lead me to the fortress gates?
Who will guide me through Edom's fate?
Without Your hand, we can't prevail,
But with Your strength, we'll never fail.

(Chorus)
Be exalted, O God, high above the skies,
Your glory shines, Lord, far and wide.
Through You, we'll do valiant deeds,
Treading down enemies, planting righteous seeds.

(Outro)
So give us help, Lord, against the foe,
The strength of man can't make it so.
Through You, we rise; through You, we fight,
Your glory, Lord, is our guiding light.
