Terminal Lucidity - defies physicalist explanation

How can people with severe mental impairment, dementia, alzheimers etc, whom have been in a near vegetative state for years, suddenly snap out of it, hours to days before death?

If the mind were produced by the brain this would be impossible but it happens. The brain does not produce consciousness but receives & filters it. The mind is spiritual.
