Patrick Mahomes Fined $14K for Controversial Celebration After Chiefs’ First Loss

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been hit with a hefty fine by the NFL for unsportsmanlike conduct following a controversial touchdown celebration during the Chiefs' recent clash with the Buffalo Bills.
The NFL announced Mahomes was fined $14,069 for making a "violent gesture" — mimicking shooting a gun with his fingers — after connecting with tight end Noah Gray for a fourth-quarter touchdown. The celebration, deemed unacceptable by the league, overshadowed the Chiefs’ first loss of the season, with the Bills securing a 30-21 victory.
This isn’t the first time Mahomes has faced league penalties. In December 2023, he was fined $50,000 for "verbally abusing" an official in a heated matchup against the Bills. Adding to the tensions, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid was fined $100,000 for publicly criticizing officiating after the same game.
Despite Sunday’s setback, Mahomes remained optimistic, emphasizing the team’s focus on improvement. "We feel like we can play better," he said, expressing respect for the Bills' performance. The loss ended the Chiefs’ undefeated streak since Christmas Day 2023.
