A mother-of-three has spoken of her relief after having her right leg amputated - following a freak fall eight years ago which left her unable to walk. Julie Banwell, 43, hit her knee after tripping up concrete steps at her son's school and didn't realise she was walking around on a non-displaced fracture for 18 months. She has spent the best part of a decade suffering debilitating pain, undergoing operations and taking up to 50 tablets a day. Julie repeatedly pleaded with surgeons to slice off her “useless leg” after being diagnosed with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) - saying she'd rather lose a limb than suffer in agony.
