Rahan.

The son of the ferocious ages.
Episode One hundred and twenty five.
By Roger Lecureux, drawn by Andre Cheret.

The Water Pearl.

The rain had stopped, but the man remained on the lookout, intrigued by the strange behavior of this "Fire-Haired" hunter he had just glimpsed.

Go! Go! Faster! Rahan is sure that you will win this race!
The son of Crao amused himself by following the course of the drops on a large leaf.
Well? What are you waiting for, "Water-Pearl"!?
Go back. Go back quickly!

His "favorite" had just stopped, held by a tiny hole in the leaf.
As he leaned over to express his spite.
Oh. What. What. Rahan has never seen that!

Through the drop of water, forming a magnifying glass.
He distinguished the head of an.
Aphid!
Could the "Water Pearl" allow us to see things that Rahan's eye cannot see?

Page Two.

Amazed by this discovery he tore off the leaf, but.
Oh! The "Pearl" is too fragile!
The shock had caused the trickling drop to burst.

To preserve the "water pearl", you have to protect it and move it gently, gently!
Once again, Rahan's imagination worked wonders.

He cut a small bamboo tube and drilled a tiny hole in the base.
Rahan once discovered "The Far-Seeing Eye."

Could he have discovered "The Eye-That-Magnifies" today!?
He carefully collected another drop of rain.

A moment later, a “pearl of water” revealed to him a wonderful and fantastic world.
Ra-ha-ha!

Rahan can see what the eye cannot see!
No hunter before Rahan has seen like this.
A head of an "ant"!
Enraptured in contemplation of this ant, the son of Crao had relaxed his usual vigilance.

Page Three.

You are on our territory! The "Object-that-sees-that-is-not-seen" is ours."
Vlang!

When Rahan came to, his "Magnifier" was gone!
Rahan will find the one who stole the "Water Pearl" from him!
The traces of his attacker were all fresh.

They soon took him to a village where two hunters were fighting.
Kaharg is crazy!
He claims that by putting water in this bamboo one can see "That-which-is-not-seen"!

One of the men, probably the leader, dipped the tube into a jar full of water.
Look everyone! Orka fills this tube with water.

And. He sees nothing! Nothing at all! Here is the proof that Kaharg lied! Or that he was deceived by this hunter with the "Fire-Hair"!
Orka and Kaharg are as stupid as each other!

Rahan will explain to you. Oh!
The son of Crao rushed forward but.

Page Four.

A heavy cage made of solid spikes fell on him, imprisoning him.
Orka the leader and his men were already running.

Ha-ha-ha! Could it be you, the so-called sorcerer who claims to see in this bamboo the things "that we do not see"!

Rahan does not pretend! He saw!
Deliver him from this trap and he will prove to you that he is telling the truth!
I hope so for you!

On an order from Orka, the clan raised the cage.
At that moment, the son of Crao could have fled. But he was not made that way.

That was why, shortly after.
When there is too much water, the eye is blind!
The "Eye-that-Grows" must be made of a single "pearl of water"!
A single pearl! Here, Orka. You can look.

The chief brought the "Magnifying Glass" to his wrist and the clan heard him roar in amazement and joy.
A sorcerer! You are a real sorcerer "Fire-Hair"!

Page Five.

Under the glistening drop he could make out the deep pores of his skin between the bush of his hair.

You said the truth, Rahan! But I want to see my whole hand now! Make me a bigger "Water Pearl"!
But that is impossible, Orka!

Rahan does not want to tell us his secret! But Kaharg has understood!
To make a bigger "Water Pearl", you have to choose a bigger hole! He will show you!

The colossus had more muscles than common sense. His demonstration was lamentable.
Uh, Uh! This is not right!

The chief, Orka was furious.
Kaharg is making fun of us! And Rahan wants to keep his secret to himself!
If he refuses to make a big "Water Pearl," they will both be put to death!

To death? You should first catch Rahan!
The son of the wild ages was already rushing into the jungle.
But.

He was wrong to turn around and throw this challenge because.

Page Six.

Another trap was there.
Oh! Vrak!
Ha-ha-ha! You will have all night to think about it, "Fire-Hair"!

Rahan, in fact, meditated for a long time. It was impossible for him to escape from this solid cage.
A big eye that gets bigger! It is impossible! Unless, Unless.

An idea came to him when.
Kaharg sneaked up on him.

This is all my fault, Rahan. I should not have stolen the "Water Pearl" from you!
If you do not make a big “Eye-that-grows" We will both die!

So let us both escape, Kaharg! You must be strong enough to lift this cage. If only a little!
Hum. The colossus hesitated an instant.

Then he made up his mind. With his back to the crossbar, he had to gather all his strength to half-open the trap.
Thank you Kaharg, You have redeemed yourself to Rahan!

And now let us flee!
What is the point! Mine will catch up with me sooner or later!
And they will not forgive me for freeing you!
Page Seven.

It depends, Kaharg!
Do you know a place in this territory where these stones grow that are as clear as water?
The son of Crao had not abandoned his idea.

Yes! I know where we find these stones but it is in the lair of the "Grand-baloua"!
Take Rahan there, Kagarg, quickly!

The moon lit up the forest as if it were daylight. Kaharg led Rahan to a cave, from which growls rose.
It is so clear that the "Great Baloua" does not sleep!

A huge grizzly suddenly appeared at the entrance of the cave. He had felt the presence of men.
Do not move, Rahan! None of us has ever been able to knock out the "Grand-baloua"!

But the son of the fierce ages was already rushing forward.
Rahan does not want to steal your life, "Baloua"! He will only fight you if you prevent him from passing!

Argh!
"Fire-Hair" is lost! The "Great Baloua" will tear him apart!
The grizzly bear lunged at Rahan.

Page Eight.

And surrounded him with his clawed paws with incredible savagery.
Ra, Rahan does not want to. Kill you! He, He argh!

The grizzly bear hugged him so hard that Rahan thought his heart was bursting.
Only then did he wedge his ivory knife against the hairy chest.
Argh!

Impaling himself on the weapon, the "Grand-Baloua" collapsed.
Rahan. Did not want to. "Baloua." But it was his life against yours.
The son of Crao did not shout his victory cry.

Later in the cave.
Ra-ha-ha!
The stones of water!
Embedded here in the rock itself, were large quartz crystals.

When he reappeared, a flat "Stone" was shining in his hand.
Here is our "Water Pearl", Kaharg but you will have to help Rahan cut and polish it!

It was only in the morning that Orka noticed the disappearance of the captive.
Only Kaharg-the-traitor could help him escape!
Find them, and kill them!
Page Nine.

However, after being worked on for a long time and sanded with sand dust, the quartz became transparent, translucent like spring water.

Rahan and Kaharg took turns, giving each other no respite. The quartz had taken the form of an enormous lens.
Our "Eye-that-sees-what-we-cannot-see" will soon be finished, Kaharg!

And that was when.
Look there! Kill! Kill!
A screaming pack rushed towards them.

The son of Crao petrified them with a single gesture!
Would you dare kill those who bring the big water pearl to your leader!
Oh!

You wanted an "Eye that Grows," Orka? You wanted a giant "Water Pearl"? Here is one!

Rahan placed the glittering lens on the hollow knot of the tree skin.
This "Eye" is not made of water, but look how it grows! Look!

Page Ten.

But. But. I do not see anything! Nothing at all!
Look closer!

The son of Crao placed himself on the other side of the "Tree Skin." And.
Orka screamed in amazement and joy.
Through the quartz eye, Rahan's enormous blue eye was looking at him with malice!
It is magic!

You have just proven yourself to be a great sorcerer, "Fire-Hair"!
You can stay among us as long as you like!
Rahan is just a simple hunter, Okra.
And.

His destiny calls him to other lands!
But Kaharg will teach you how to make even more beautiful Water Pearls.
Moreover, he knows the secret! Farewell, brothers!
Goodbye Rahan!

For Rahan, son of the fierce ages, this had been only a banal adventure.
As he plunged into the jungle the first drops of an upcoming downpour crackled.
Happy to be alive, he offered himself to the "Pearls of water" that burst on his face.
