Here is more insight into the character of Balaam with clarification. I watched a sermon with Pastor Omar Thibeaux of “School of The Hebrews”. He expounded on this scripture that is often taken out of context. “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly” (John 10: 10, KJV).

As he explained, it is attributed to Satan because those whom this passage refers to is not doing the true work of the LORD. The pastor then goes on to confirm this even further. “If a kingdom is divided [split into factions and rebelling] against itself, that kingdom cannot stand” (Mark 3: 24, KJV).

In a past post, I mentioned how the devil can gain an advantage over the saints if they take God’s word in part. So, I want to expound that the “thief” is revealed as being the false prophets. These verses precede John 10:10. “So Jesus said again, ‘I assure you and most solemnly say to you, I am the Door for the sheep [leading to life]. All who came before Me [as false messiahs and self-appointed leaders] are thieves and robbers, but the [true] sheep did not hear them. I am the Door; anyone who enters through Me shall be saved [and will live forever], and will go in and out [freely], and find pasture (spiritual security)” (John 10: 7-9, AMP).

These follow John 10:10. “But the hired man [who merely serves for wages], who is neither the shepherd nor the owner of the sheep, when he sees the wolf coming, deserts the flock and runs away; and the wolf snatches the sheep and scatters them. The man runs because he is a hired hand [who serves only for wages] and is not concerned about the [safety of the] sheep” (John 10: 12-13, KJV).

These false prophets are not running from the “wolf” but are going against God. They are doing the true will of their father. “No man can enter into a strong man’s house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house” (Mark 3: 27, KJV). The “thief” lays the trap. He sets the bait.
