Marine receives Silver Star

Staff Sgt. Andrew K. Thompson, a Marine with 1st Marine Special Operations Command, received the Silver Star, the military's third highest honor, during a ceremony at Camp Pendleton, Calif. Thompson, who was an element leader with a Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command, Company A, led his team and a company of Afghan National Army in an operation to clear a village in the Farah province of Afghanistan. During the operation, the unit came under heavy fire. Thompson resupplied his formation twice while under fire from all directions. Cpl. Jennifer Pirante has the story.
