Fort Wayne police officer shot while trying to detain fleeing suspect

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - A 20-year-old Fort Wayne man who pleaded guilty to the attempted murder of a Fort Wayne Police Department Officer in June was sentenced to 30 years in prison Tuesday.

Police responded to the 4700 block of Holton Avenue around 4:45 p.m. on June 13 for a reported burglary, court records show. A 911 caller informed police she walked into her home to find two armed people.

While police searched the home, an officer located Zar Myint, climbing out of a window and carrying a semi-automatic handgun with an extended magazine.
