The Cowboys traded a fourth round pick to land Trey Lance. Someone who was drafted to be a franchise quarterback. He is currently getting paid $5 million from his rookie deal he signed with the 49ers and is an unrestricted free agent next year. Should the Cowboys let Trey Lance walk or does have the tremendous upside that landed him a #3 overall pick? How can we know if we don’t play him? Plus, Trey Lance is a dual threat asset and let’s be honest the Cowboys offense needs all the threats it can get (more on that later). We’re talking about running true read options and making defenses actually respect the post hand off action. Do you think any defense actually thinks Cooper Rush is going to keep the ball here? No! Also, since the Cowboys pass catchers separation isn’t great and the o line isn’t great. Wouldn’t it make sense to have a guy who can extend plays, rather than just letting Cooper Rush be a sitting duck. Let Trey Lance outside the pocket and give the receivers downfield a little more time to get open. Make the defenders have to defend the scramble and the receiver. The cowboys are a dejected team. You can see it in the body language of the long time players, the coaches, and even one of the newest additions, look at him, he’s been here for two weeks. Trey Lance might be able to provide a spark, a tiny glimmer of hope to a team that feels awful to watch and probably worse to play for. And if he’s terrible then it’s time to move on and open up his roster spot as well.
