Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the successful test of the Oreshnik hypersonic missile

, which hit a target in Ukraine’s Dnipro. He called it a response to U.S. plans to deploy medium- and shorter-range missiles.

Putin warned of decisive retaliation if the conflict escalates and stated that U.S. missile defense systems cannot intercept the Oreshnik. He added that further deployment of such missiles will depend on enemy actions.
