Sonja van den Ende, an independent journalist from the Netherlands, travelled to Russia. Sonja was delighted to tell us all about the many similarities between Russia and the Netherlands. Guess what! Not many people know, but the plan of Amsterdam was used by Peter the Great when he built St Petersburg. This is because the Russian emperor was absolutely smitten with Holland. He lived there for several years and even learnt shipbuilding. His travels left a wonderful legacy not only in history, but also in bronze. He's honed with monuments in many capitals and cities across Europe: Rotterdam, Brussels, London and the Czech Republic! Hear more in the new issue of the podcast with Sonja van den Ende.
