Nurture: God and Absurdity

Life often surprises us with moments of absurdity—events so unexpected, ironic, or seemingly nonsensical that they challenge our understanding and invite us to pause. These moments, rather than being distractions or inconveniences, can be profound opportunities to reflect on God’s nature, humor, and grace.

Scripture is filled with examples of God revealing Himself in absurd ways: Sarah laughing at the idea of bearing a child in her old age, a camel squeezing through the eye of a needle to illustrate spiritual challenges, or the profound foolishness of the cross as the means of salvation. Each of these moments defies human logic, pointing us to a higher truth: God’s ways are not our ways, and His plans often exceed our ability to comprehend.

In absurdity, God teaches us to release control, embrace joy, and trust Him completely. Laughter becomes a response to grace, as we realize that the unexpected is often where God does His greatest work. Jesus Himself leaned into the absurd, using parables and imagery that upended societal norms, inviting His followers to think deeply and live differently.

This reflective teaching encourages us to see the absurd as part of God’s divine design—whether through humorous moments, unexpected blessings, or challenges that seem insurmountable. Absurdity disarms us, making room for faith, humility, and joy. It reminds us that God delights in turning the impossible into reality and invites us to find beauty, purpose, and His presence in the most surprising places.
