Taiwan is probably screwed

Taiwan's future hangs by a thread, caught between its democratic identity and China’s growing ambitions.

I lived in Taiwan years ago, learning its history and the immense pressure it faces from China - militarily, economically, and politically.

China's imperative is clear: control Taiwan to secure its eastern seaboard and diminish US influence in the region. Military invasion, while risky, seems inevitable. But Taiwan's defenses, even with US support, are dwarfed by China’s might.

The harsh truth is that if the cost of defending Taiwan rises too high, the West may walk away. History shows that survival depends on sheer strength, not ideals.
