Los Angeles to become immigration ‘sanctuary’

Los Angeles is preparing for a confrontation with President-elect Donald Trump over immigration, as its city council plans to pass a “sanctuary city” ordinance that would block local resources from assisting federal immigration authorities.

The city’s public school system is also set to declare itself a sanctuary for undocumented immigrants and LGBTQ students.

Trump’s administration, under his appointed “border czar” Tim Homan, has vowed to carry out mass deportations, despite opposition from sanctuary cities like Los Angeles, which aim to limit cooperation with federal immigration enforcement, the BBC has reported.
