On November 17, 2024, President-elect Donald Trump announced Brendan Carr's appointment as chairman of the FCC. This role will position him to further influence telecommunications policy amid ongoing discussions about regulating large technology companies and ensuring that broadcasters adhere to public interest standards. His leadership is expected to align with Trump's agenda of reducing regulations and challenging perceived biases in media coverage.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President-elect Donald Trump will tap Brendan Carr as chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, he said in a statement on Sunday. Carr is currently the top Republican on the FCC, an independent agency which regulates interstate and international communications.

He has been a supporter of Elon Musk's efforts to win subsidies for broadband internet service and criticized NBC for letting Vice President Kamala Harris appear on "Saturday Night Live" just before the election.
