Drifting | Wisdom For Today Christian Devotional
As we start today’s devotional, let’s remember that true wisdom comes from God. In a world full of distractions and endless information, it’s easy to lose focus on what truly matters. God invites us to seek His wisdom, the path that leads us to grow toward His love and likeness.
James writes in the fifth verse of the opening chapter of his epistle, "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him."
So, let’s apply that right now by asking God for the wisdom we need to navigate life’s challenges with grace and understanding. And, by all means, allow me to share some Wisdom for Today!
Inspired by Pastor Chuck Smith from November 17th, titled Drifting.
Verse for Today:
"Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away."
Hebrews 2, 1.
Thought for Today:
The book of Hebrews was written to warn Jewish believers who were drifting back into old traditions and away from the truth of Jesus Christ. The word "therefore" in this passage connects to the previous chapter, where we learn that God has spoken to humanity in various ways: through prophets in the past, and now, most directly, through His Son, Jesus.
Jesus’ words are powerful and life-changing. He said, "If you want to enter heaven, you must be born again" (John 3, 3). He also said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me" (John 14, 6). These teachings are essential anchors for our faith. If we fail to heed His Word, we risk slowly drifting away, much like a boat that loses sight of its anchor.
Drifting often happens quietly and imperceptibly. To recognize it, we need a stationary frame of reference. In life, that anchor is Jesus Christ. Heed His words, for they will keep you grounded in truth.
Focus for Today:
Keep your eyes on Jesus Christ, the Anchor of your soul.
Wisdom for Today:
Drifting is dangerous because it happens so gradually. We might not notice that we’ve moved further from our faith until we look back and see how far we’ve gone. The only way to prevent this is by keeping Jesus at the center of our lives. His teachings serve as the stationary point, the rock we can cling to in an ever-changing world.
When we regularly reflect on His Word and keep Him as our guide, we avoid the risks of spiritual complacency. Let His truth be your compass and your foundation. Stay vigilant, stay anchored, and you will not drift.
Prayer for Today:
Father, we are prone to wander and drift from You. Keep us close and anchor us in Your truth. May Your Word guide our steps and keep us steady, no matter how turbulent life becomes. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
