Biden authorizes Ukraine to attack Russia with US long-range missiles
Two months before the end of his term, the president authorized the Ukrainian military for the first time to use the system known as ATACMS to defend its forces in Russia's Kursk region.

US President Biden has approved Ukraine's first use of US-supplied long-range missiles for attacks inside Russia, US officials said.

The weapons will likely initially be used against Russian and North Korean troops defending Ukrainian forces in the Kursk region of western Russia, the officials said.

Mr. Biden's decision is a major shift in US policy. The election has divided his advisers, and his reversal comes two months before President-elect Donald J. Trump takes office, having promised to limit further support for Ukraine.
