Body Camera Footage Shows Chicago Police Shooting at Fleeing Armed Suspect

On September 16, 2024, at around 10:15 p.m., Chicago Police Officers were called to the 7100 block of South Jeffery Boulevard after a report of a person with a gun. Upon approach, the armed suspect identified as 31-year-old Rakim Kendall fled on foot. As Kendall ran across the street he was struck by a black SUV which knocked him to the ground. Kendall proceeded to get back up and brandish his gun pointing it to the direction of the initiating officer. One officer shot in the direction of Kendall but did not strike him. Kendall continued to run away from officers and turned toward them while he was still armed.

Another officer shot at Kendall but did not hit him. Kendall was arrested in the 7100 block of South Cyril Avenue. A loaded gun, (glock 40, barrel length 6.02, blue steel finish) with extended magazine was recovered along with multiple multicolor zip lock baggies with green leafy substance suspect cannabis. Kendall was taken to a local hospital for minor injuries but had not been struck by gunfire. Kendall was subsequently charged with Five (5) felony counts – Aggravated Assault/Peace Officer, One (1) felony count – Aggravated UUW/Loaded - No FCCA-FOID, One (1) felony count – Poss Can 100-500 Gram/1st.
