Justice: Hard But Necessary – Deut. Chpt. 19

When you hear the word 'justice' what immediately comes to mind? I think of judgment meted out without emotion. I think of the law being applied without pity. Justice is God's way; we'll see that in today's text. Unfortunately, humanity has fallen so far from God's plan that true justice is hard to come by. Civil and criminal law isn't applied equally to all. As a result, crime and civil offenses continue unabated.

Personally, I take great comfort knowing that God and his justice will ultimately prevail. Every human being will face the LORD's just judgment. Those who die in their sins (without Christ) will be punished commensurate with the evil deeds they have done. Those who surrender to Jesus for salvation will be rewarded commensurate with their obedience and service to the King.

The thing about genuine justice is that it is meted out without emotion. It has to be that way, because "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked..." (Jer 17:9). Wicked hearts corrupt emotions, and corrupt emotions corrupt justice.
