THE IMPERIAL CITY OF PETRÓPOLIS!

In this video, we visit another winter getaway destination in the state of Rio de Janeiro called Petrópolis. Petrópolis is famous for so many things that we will mention during the video. First we show you the building where we stayed which is called Palácio Quitandinha. This building used to be a luxury hotel and casino when it was built, but after was turned into a condominium and right now on the ground floor there is a government organization called SESC that uses the different halls located in the building for several different exhibitions and other cultural activities. Next we visited the imperial Museum (Museu Imperial) which is an absolutely beautiful museum with lots of articles such as furniture, decorations, jewellery, art works, etc. from the colonial era being displayed. In front of the building there is also a garden and this property used to be the summer residence of the Portuguese royal family when they would stay in Petrópolis. After the museum, we visited the Catedral São Pedro de Alcântara, which is where the last Portuguese emperor Don Pedro II, his wife and his daughter are buried. Across the street from the cathedral and on the famous Koeler street, we also visited Casa da Princesa Isabel which used to be the house of the daughter of the Portuguese emperor Don Pedro II and after this property we took a stroll down the Koeler street to show you all of the wonderful properties alogn this street. Then we visited another house which is also a museum called Casa de Santos Dumont. Dumont is believed to be the father of aviation and a lot of Brazilians believe that in fact he was the first person to fly an airplane and not the Wright brothers! He was also an inventor so in his house there are a lot of other items that he had invented on display. Next stop was Palácio de Cristal which was originally designed and built in France and then was shipped to Petrópolis by the husband of the daughter of the Portuguese Emperor Princess Isabel. It was a gift to her from her husband and throughout the years has been used for different purposes. The metal work and the glass used in the design of this structure is remarkable. Our last stop was Casa da Ipiranga or Casa do 7 erros which is a house with a very unique design. The house is built in an asymmetric fashion and the two sides of the house do not look the same. There are 7 "mistakes' or irregularities in the design of the house when you compare the 2 sides. We hope you enjoy the video :)
