Dec. 26, 1964 - The Bills, bruisers on offense and defense, smashed their way to the AFL championship at Buffalo’s fog-shrouded War Memorial Stadium today by coming from behind to whip the defending champion San Diego Chargers, 20-7. Momentarily stunned by a quick San Diego touchdown in the third minute of play, the Bills rallied behind the passing of Jack Kemp and the running of Cookie Gilchrist to bring Buffalo its first championship in the five-year history of the AFL before a crowd of 40,242.
