Jon Kenny, beloved comedian and actor, has passed away at the age of 66. Best known for his work alongside Pat Shortt in the iconic Irish comedy duo D’Unbelievables, Kenny brought joy to audiences with his unique wit and humor.

In a statement to The Limerick Leader, his family shared the sad news of his passing on November 15, 2024, at 7:20 PM in Galway. Kenny had been battling cancer and heart failure, enduring a cardiac arrest earlier in the week. His wife Margy, son Aran, and daughter Laya were by his side.

“Jon grabbed life and shook it as hard as he could,” the family wrote. “His wit, humor, generosity, and kindness will outlast his passing. The memories and stories of those who knew him will be his legend.”

Born in Co. Limerick, Kenny achieved widespread fame in the 1990s, playing quirky Irish characters with D’Unbelievables. His screen credits include appearances in Father Ted, The Van, Les Misérables (1998), Angela’s Ashes, and The Banshees of Inisherin, where he reunited with Shortt.

Kenny also left his mark on stage, starring in productions like John B. Keane’s The Matchmaker and Katie Holly’s Crowman, showcasing his talents as a singer, poet, and solo performer.

Reflecting on his life earlier this year, Kenny spoke of his gratitude and resilience, saying, “I don’t know how in the name of God I’m even here… I’ve been bluffing all my life.”

Diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2000, Kenny underwent numerous treatments over the years, including a stem cell transplant and chemotherapy. Despite recurring health battles, he continued to perform and inspire.

His enduring humor and indomitable spirit will be fondly remembered by fans, friends, and family alike.
