The Bridge: 11th November 2024 - Part 5

As I post this on 15th/16th November, things have moved very quickly and work has now started. The videos from the rest of the week will tell the story when I get them uploaded.
There are only 3 road bridges over the railway line in Cambridge. The bridge on Mill Road is one of them. Cambridge County Counci, in conjunction with the GCP (Greater Cambridge Partnership), have been attempting to close this bridge to traffic while pretending to Cambridge residents the closure will actually ease congestion in Cambridge for a while now. They have been promised £4 million in funding from central government if they do this one thing. Thanks to a FOI by people opposed to the bridge being shut, it seems this promise was made before the public consultation actually took place.
There is a legal process that is still ongoing, but the Council and the GCP have jumped the gun and decided to start work on the infrastructure to close the bridge anyway.
