Hello, and welcome back to Places - Lost in Time, a series that looks back on the tale of places and locations that have existing within living memory or photographic record, but are now lost to the pages of history.

Today, we look at something a touch more contentious, as with the expansion of the Soviet Union across much of Eastern Europe towards the end of World War II, the cult of personality surrounding its brutal dictator, Joseph Stalin, spread into all walks of life, with the most infamous ode to one of history's most evil tyrants being the Stalin Monument that rose above the ancient Czech capital of Prague, a monstrous creation so hated, that it led to its architect committing suicide in disgrace, while only six years after its completion, the gigantic monolith was torn down in a hail of dynamite, though at the same time giving rise to a somewhat cursed reputation as to the potential legacy of this sculpture to the Soviet premier.
