On May 4, 2024 in Florida, officers responded to an apartment complex regarding a suspected identity theft. The leasing office reported that an online applicant had submitted documents that had raised suspicions. A credit check then revealed that the name on the application was an active duty member of the military currently deployed overseas. When contacting the military member at the phone number listed on the credit report, the leasing office confirmed that the person was not in the country and had not given anyone permission to apply for an apartment. The leasing office requested that the online applicant come to the apartment complex to sign additional documents, and when the woman arrived, the police were waiting. This is body cam footage of the events that followed.
