Description:
Discover the profound spiritual insights behind praying in tongues and how it connects to the 8th day—the great day of the Feast of Tabernacles. This teaching explores the scriptural basis and the transformative power of praying in tongues, revealing its significance as a victory celebration for believers.

In John 7:37-39 (NKJV), it says: “On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, ‘If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’ But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.” This passage references the Feast of Tabernacles, which for seven days involved sacrifices for the nations (representing the cross and Jesus’ universal sacrifice). On the 8th day, however, the sacrifice was specifically for Israel, symbolizing the church’s unique inheritance.

The 8th day—“the great day”—points to a deeper spiritual truth. The Feast of Tabernacles lasted from Sabbath to Sabbath (seven days), and on each day, the priests would circle the altar once, declaring, “Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!” On the seventh day, they circled it seven times, echoing the pattern seen at the fall of Jericho (Joshua 6:3-5). The 8th day, however, was different. It was reserved for God’s covenant people and was celebrated with a special outpouring of water mingled with wine—a type of the baptism in the Holy Spirit.

The Day of Pentecost and Its Fulfillment
The connection between the 8th day and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost is powerful. Acts 2:1-4 (NKJV) recounts: “When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting… And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” This occurred on a Sunday morning at 9 AM, mirroring the time when priests poured out water during the Feast’s 8th day morning sacrifice.

As Jesus, the great High Priest, poured out the Spirit from the throne of God, believers became the new temple from which rivers of living water would flow—from their mouths (John 7:38). This act signified that the church now carried the Shekinah glory once confined to the Holy of Holies (Matthew 27:51).

Praying in Tongues: The Victory of the 8th Day
Praying in tongues is more than just spiritual expression; it is the celebration of victory over the enemy. The 8th day symbolizes the completed work of Christ (perfection and the beginning of new creation), empowering believers to live in their inheritance. It parallels the story of Jericho (Joshua 6), where the Israelites marched around the city once for six days and seven times on the seventh day, causing the walls to collapse. Similarly, the Feast of Tabernacles’ 7-day circling followed by the 8th day’s outpouring signifies that believers today are not tearing down walls but walking over already conquered ground.

A Life of Overflow and Triumph
When believers pray in tongues, they are participating in this 8th day blessing. It is the declaration that Satan’s barriers have been broken by Jesus. The outpouring of the Holy Spirit, with its mingling of water and wine (Acts 2:13), symbolizes joy and victory, akin to what those present on Pentecost experienced when they were mistaken for being drunk.

Praying in tongues is not an attempt to bring down spiritual walls—those fell on the seventh day. Instead, it is walking in triumph, taking back the inheritance God intended for humanity. As the church, believers celebrate a perpetual Jubilee, walking in freedom and reclaiming what was lost through Adam (Leviticus 25:10).
