Fire Start: Leaf Combo Move

Fire with single leaves used as torches to get the blaze going. The fire gets off to a slow start because the leaves are fresh in fall and moist, so the combo move was developed to use less lighter fluid. Light a leaf so the fire flows up the leaf. Put it under the sticks on the side the wind comes from. Quick, light a second leaf from the first. Repeat until the stucks ignite.

In this video, I show a unique way to start a fire using fresh autumn leaves as natural torches. Since the leaves are moist from the season, I use a special technique to save lighter fluid. By lighting a leaf and letting the flame flow upward, I place it under sticks on the side where the wind is coming from. I then light another leaf from the first, repeating the process until the sticks catch fire. This method gradually builds the heat needed to get the fire going, making it useful for damp conditions in fall. Perfect for those learning fire-building skills in challenging weather.
