Abu al-Fazl al-Tamimi, a venerable 10th-century Muslim saint, was born in 952 CE (341 AH) in Yemen to the esteemed Arabian al-Tamimi tribe. His full name was Abd al-Wahid bin Abd al-Aziz bin al-Harith bin Asad al-Tamimi.

Al-Tamimi's early life remains somewhat obscure, but it is known that his family belonged to the respected al-Tamimi tribe of Yemeni origin. He was the son and disciple of Abu al-Hasan al-Tamimi, a renowned Sufi master.

Al-Tamimi's spiritual journey was deeply influenced by his father and Abu Bakr Shibli, a prominent Persian Sufi. He received the Sufi khirqa (initiatory cloak) from his father, Abdul Aziz bin Harith bin Asad al-Tamimi, and also drew guidance from Shibli's teachings.

Muhaddith Shah Waliullah Dehlawi noted that al-Tamimi wore the khirqa from both his father and Shibli, reflecting his connection to multiple spiritual lineages.

As a devoted Sufi, al-Tamimi adhered to the Hanbali school of thought and spent his life guiding seekers, often while traveling. His spiritual legacy was ensured through his prominent disciple and successor, Mohammad Yousaf Abu-al-Farrah Turtoosi.

Among al-Tamimi's celebrated works is "Itiqad al-Imam al-Mubajjal Ahmad ibn Hanbal" (also known as "I'tiqad al-Imam al-Munabbal Abi 'Abd Allah Ahmad ibn Hanbal"), a testament to his scholarly and spiritual contributions.

Abu al-Fazl al-Tamimi passed away in 1020 CE (410 AH), leaving behind a legacy of spiritual wisdom and guidance.

Al-Tamimi's shrine is located in Baghdad, Iraq, although some sources suggest it may be in Yemen or Egypt.
