The Tiny Things That Can Change A Play

On Sunday CeeDee Lamb caught a ball with the sun in his eyes. He also completely lost a ball with the sun in his eyes. What was the difference?

It’s 3rd and 2 and the Cowboys run Lamb on a little crossing route, he’s got some traffic, but gets open and catches the ball for a first down.

Not much later it is 2nd and Goal. Lamb runs a slant and gets tremendous separation, but never sees the ball out of Cooper’s hands so the ball falls incomplete.

Did you see it?

Let's play both throws right next to each other. Can you see the difference? On the left we can see that the ball is thrown above Lamb’s head so he’s actually able to look above where the sun is coming in to track the ball into his hands. Now on the right we can see the ball has a much more horizontal trajectory crossing CeeDee at about hip level, as a result CeeDee is not able to spot the ball as well as if Rush had thrown the ball above his helmet…

And remember when I said so much of this game is decided by little things?

Ferguson is just a few yards to the right of CeeDee lamb, but he never lost the ball, and judging by his reaction I think he thinks he could have caught it.

Jesus is king.
