Into The Art - CVAP Week 1 Vlog

Hey, folks. I got myself into this thing called the Certified Voice Artist Program (CVAP). We meet online at least once every week on Saturdays, and our first session was last November 09, 2024.

What did I learn from the orientation, and then from that first session? Well, two things.

First, voice acting is an art - It's more than a mere source of income and it's more than reading from a script.

It involves more than your mouth. Voice acting involves most, if not all of your being: Your character, your passion, your past and present, and so on.

You don't just give voice to a character, but you add character to your voice.

Second, voice acting is an art.

Yeah, I know I just said that. I'm emphasizing it - just like the first two rules of Fight Club are 'You do not talk about Fight Club', and 'You DO NOT. Talk. About. Fight Club.'

Any idiot can read from a script. A voice artist makes sure that all bases are covered - the narrative, the vision, the characters, the logistics, the timing, down to the final cut.

You aren't just making content, you're developing a creation.

At the tail end of the whole-day session, we were designated groups, and I was pleased to meet our Mentors (Kate, Liam and Hannah), as well as my Voicemates (Nessy, Jen and Carlo).

I suspect that it'll be a recurring theme for them to keep us on our toes and to produce great things within a limited amount of time. In this case, we all barely knew each other and they had us come up with a suitable name for our team (integrating 'Voice' into the name), as well as an appropriate introduction - in, oh, less than 10 minutes.

We all agreed on our name first - BidaOneVoice. 'Bida', meaning 'hero' in Tagalog; We were team 1, and, well, it was just proper for us to throw in 'Voice' at the end. I mean, sure, it didn't 'resonate' as much as I wanted to, but given the circumstances, we all found out later in the session that it just... worked.

I also found out that we were all from different parts of the Philippines - the North, the Capital Region, a little South, and then WAY South. We hopped on that realization and made a 'hero'-themed introduction matching BidaOneVoice. Planning was quick but efficient, execution was not 100% (mostly because we were doing this online), but in the end I was just so amazed at what we came up with in such a small amount of time.

This is looking to be the start of something good, and I'm really excited to see how it all turns out.

Thanks for your time.
Until the next post, God bless us all.
