Austin police released new video on Wednesday of what led up to officers shooting and killing a suspect in northwest Austin last week.

They said it started Thursday, Nov. 7, when the suspect, 27-year-old Zachary Labrie, was seen speeding and swerving through traffic on State Highway 71 near Bee Cave around 3:11 a.m. Police said they tried to stop him, but he took off and officers ended the chase.

Around 3:38 a.m., they say he showed up at the MAA Canyon Creek apartments off Ranch Road 620. A Ring doorbell camera shows him exiting an orange Ford Ranger truck wearing a mask and carrying a shotgun before kicking in a door. A few minutes later, he left and drove off.

Around 4:42 a.m., they say he then went to a nearby Starbucks and carjacked a woman who was sitting in her car before fleeing the scene.

Then, at 6:27 a.m., a man called 911 reporting he had been carjacked at a nearby H-E-B. Police found the first stolen vehicle unoccupied in the H-E-B parking lot.

About two hours later, police said they found Labrie back at the apartment complex with the second stolen car.

When they tried to stop him, they said he ran away from them and pointed a gun at officers, so officers returned fire. All three responding officers fired their weapons, striking Labrie.

Officers and Austin-Travis County EMS medics attempted life-saving measures, but Labrie was pronounced dead at 9:03 a.m.
