There are many flashlights that look the same as this one but are priced far below the £69.04 price tag here. What is it that makes this new torch from Brinyte worth the difference?

There are three versions of this torch available. I have the standard model but Outdoor and Tactical versions are also available supplied with different accessories.

In the attractive mid-market box, you receive the torch itself, a single type 21700 rechargeable battery, a USB-C charging cable, a wrist lanyard, two spare O ring seals, and a well written but rather small user guide. Build quality all seems first class, as I would expect for the price.

The IP68 waterproof non zooming flashlight is made from heavy duty A6062-T6 Aluminium Alloy and has a quality and professional feel to it in the hand. On the front is a crenellated edged strike bezel which is detachable (although I could not get it off). Below on one side is a grommet protected charging port and on the other a combined control button and status LED. Moving down is the pocket clip and tactical ring (whatever that is) and on the end the detachable tail piece with two more control buttons and giving access to the battery compartment.

No external charger is supplied and charging must be done using the USB-C port on the side and a short cable is provided for this. The torch is powered by a single type 21700 5000 mAh lithium-ion battery. A full charge should power the torch for between 130 and 16800 minutes, depending on the operating mode selected. After switching the torch on the front switch colour coded LED will show the current battery level. The user guide says that in emergencies a type CR124A battery can also be used.

With a maximum output of 2000 lumens, this may well be the most powerful flashlight if this size I have ever used. It has four selectable brightness levels of 2000, 820, 190, and 10 lumens as well as strobe and SOS modes. There is a pronounced hotspot at the beam centre, a feature which can be used for targeting. The torch also has a locking mode, to prevent accidental operation.

The torch has three operating buttons, a large and small tail buttons, and a thumb button near the top of the torch shaft.

Using the tail button, soft touch the large button to turn on in turbo mode and release to turn off, click press to switch the torch on and off normally. The small button will scroll through the brightness levels, with a long press to enter strobe mode. Slightly unscrewing the tail button will turn it off although the torch can still be controlled by the thumb button.

The functions of the thumb button vary depending on if the tail button is on or off. When the tail button is off the thumb button scrolls through the operating modes with a long press to turn the torch off. When the tail button is on (screwed tight) you can also scroll through the operating modes, but also directly access strobing and SOS modes. The thumb button can also be used to enter and exit locking mode and display the current battery status.

This has to be the best small to medium sized torch I have ever used, not only more powerful than the rest but with a build quality and range of features that is unmatched,. If you need a super high quality, super bight compact torch, then this one may be worth paying more for.
