ALCANTARA, DO YOU KNOW THIS HIDDEN GEM?

In this video, we visit the charming, colonial city of Alcantara which is located right across the Saint Marc Bay (Baía de São Marcos) from where São Luís is located. Alcantara is considered part of the greater metropolitan São Luís area and is a destination that you must visit when you are in Maranhão and visiting the capital city of São Luís. Alcantara has kept a lot of its colonial architecture and had a lot of significance during the colonial history of Brazil. Alcantara was originally occupied by the natives of this region, but eventually Europeans settled there too and was at some point home to the elite families who did not want to live in São Luís and rather chose to call Alcantara home.
