London Ohio officers rescue a missing 5-year-old with autism who was floating in a creek

A dramatic rescue of a missing 5-year-old child was captured on a body worn camera by police officers in Madison County Tuesday evening.

According to the London Police Department, officers Dylan Fout and Denise Dye were patrolling on the south side of the city at around 6:12 p.m. when they noticed a boy walking by himself along the sidewalk of West Center Street, near Oak Run creek.

London PD said when they turned their cruiser around to check on the child, they could not find him and began to look for him on foot. As the officers were searching, a 911 call was received on reports of a missing child with autism in a nearby creek.

Police ran toward the creek and officer Fout found the boy floating on his back in the water, which was approximately three feet deep. Officer Fout pulled the boy out of the water and set him down on the embankment in the grass, while officer Dye called for assistance and went to the cruiser to retrieve a blanket.

The boy was conscious and alert, but London Fire medics took him to an area hospital for observation due to the temperature of the water, which was reportedly around 40 degrees. He was treated and released.
