"We need the money! ASAP!" Sony Pictures has unveiled an official trailer for One of Them Days, a buddy comedy written & directed by the team behind the "Rap Sh!t" series on Max. This is set to open in theaters January 2025, one of these dumb & fun comedies being primed for release when everyone needs something to laugh at in January. Another raucous comedy about people trying to find some cash fast. "It's gonna be One of Them Days." When best friends and roommates Dreux and Alyssa discover Alyssa's boyfriend has blown their rent money (uh oh), the duo finds themselves going to extremes in a race against the clock to avoid eviction and keep their friendship intact. Keke Palmer & SZA star as Dreux & Alyssa, respectively, with a fun ensemble cast including Maude Apatow, Lil Rel Howery, Janelle James, Katt Williams, Gabrielle Dennis, Vanessa Bell Calloway, and Amin Joseph. All the bank loan jokes are the funniest.

One of Them Days is directed by American writer / filmmaker Lawrence Lamont, making his first feature film after many short films & music videos, and directing episodes of "Rap Sh!t" previously. The screenplay is written by Syreeta Singleton (the showrunner on "Rap Sh!t"). Produced by Issa Rae, Deniese Davis, Sara Rastogi, James Lopez, and Poppy Hanks. In April 2024, it was announced that Palmer and SZA were cast in the film.[1] In July that same year, it was announced that several other actors, including Howery and Apatow, were also cast in the film.[2] In August that same year, it was announced that Perkins, Joseph, Dennis and Perry were cast in the film.[3]

Release
The film will be released on January 24, 2025.[4] On October 24, 2024, the film's first official trailer was released, revealing its title to be One of Them Days.[5]

Keke Palmer and SZA's new buddy comedy is almost here.

On Thursday, Oct. 24, Sony Pictures debuted the first trailer for One of Them Days, a comedy in which Palmer, 31, and SZA, 34, costar as best friends and roommates in Los Angeles who must come up with rent money after one of their boyfriends takes their cash.

"When they discover Alyssa’s boyfriend has blown their rent money, the duo finds themselves going to extremes in a comical race against the clock to avoid eviction and keep their friendship intact," teases a synopsis.

The movie also stars Maude Apatow, Lil Rel Howery, Janelle James and Katt Williams in supporting roles.

Issa Rae produced the movie, while both Keke and her mother Sharon Palmer are credited as executive producers. Lawrence Lamont directed the film, while Syreeta Singleton wrote its screenplay; both previously collaborated with Rae, 39, on her Max comedy series Rap Sh!t.

News that Palmer, SZA and Rae were teaming up to make a movie together first broke in April, shortly after SZA won best progressive R&B album, best pop duo/group performance and best R&B song at the 2024 Grammy Awards in February; she led all nominees with eight nominations at the awards show.

Though the new movie will mark SZA's feature-length movie debut, she previously appeared in a 2020 episode of Rae's HBO series Insecure. In 2019, SZA received an Oscar nomination for her work on the song "All the Stars," which appeared in the 2018 movie Black Panther.

Palmer last starred in a major movie in Jordan Peele's 2022 film Nope. In 2024, she also appeared in Jennifer Lopez's This Is Me... Now: A Love Story and released her directorial debut short film Big Boss, as well as an album of the same title, back in 2023.

One of Them Days is in theaters Jan. 24.

The duo star in buddy comedy “One of Them Days” which takes place over 24 hours where things go from bad to worse. The project hailed from the ColorCreative’s lab at Sony Pictures as part of a program between ColorCreative and Columbia Pictures to foster emerging diverse screenwriters’ first studio features, as announced earlier this year. Lamont also has a background in music videos, having collaborated with J. Cole, Big Sean, Kanye West, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Jhene Aiko, Nas, and Snoop Dogg.

Palmer executive produces through her Big Boss banner along with Sharon Palmer. Rae and Sara Diya Rastogi produce through Rae’s banner Hoorae; ColorCreative’s Deniese Davis and Charles D. King and MACRO Film Studios’ James Lopez and Poppy Hanks also produce. Singleton is co-producing.

“One of Them Days” reunites Palmer and SZA who appeared on “Saturday Night Life” together in December 2022, with Palmer hosting and SZA as the musical guest. “One of Them Days” is Grammy winner SZA’s acting debut, though she has performed in cinematic music videos. She also collaborated with Kendrick Lamar for “All the Stars” from the “Black Panther” soundtrack in 2018.

And the SZA and Palmer cinematic universe will soon continue with Boots Riley’s “I Love Boosters.” Palmer stars in the feature alongside SZA’s frequent collaborator LaKeith Stanfield. The cast for the Neon film is rounded out by Demi Moore and Naomi Ackie. “I Love Boosters” is about a ring of shoplifters who target a cutthroat fashion maven.
