China - Shixing, Guangdong province

Shixing is a town and a district in the north of Guangdong province. Perhaps its most notable feature is that it contains virtually the last stand of the Gingko tree, the earliest remaining tree species which has survived virtually unchanged for 200 million years, but its survival now hangs on a knife edge. The small town of Nanxiong contains about 9,000 specimens, some line both sides of the main street and the leaves turn a brilliant golden yellow in October.
