In 1763, King George III issued a proclamation that ignited colonial unrest. The Proclamation of 1763 forbade settlers from moving west of the Appalachian Mountains, reserving this land for Native American tribes to stabilize relations and prevent conflict. Colonists, feeling betrayed after fighting in the French and Indian War, believed they had earned the right to expand westward. Defying the royal decree, many settlers moved west, highlighting growing tensions with the British crown. Intended for peace, the Proclamation of 1763 became a catalyst for the American Revolution.
