The first trailer for Ash has debuted. Directed by Flying Lotus, Ash sees a woman (Eiza González) as the sole survivor after the crew she was traveling with is brutally murdered. She must figure out if she can trust the man (Aaron Paul) who has been sent to help her on the planet where she is stranded. Neil Blomkamp, director and co-writer of the critically acclaimed alien film District 9, is an executive producer on the Alien-like science-fiction horror movie slated for a 2025 release.
Now, RLJE Films has released the first trailer featuring haunting images as González's character tries to remember what happened before she woke up and found her crew had been slaughtered. Check out the trailer below:
Paul's character tries to encourage her to remember what happened as they traverse the mysterious planet they find themselves on and are confronted by frightening forces. Meanwhile, the motivations of Paul’s character remain unclear as González's character tries to figure out if he is an ally or foe.
What This First Trailer Means For Ash
It Looks Perfect For Alien Fans
Ash's blend of science-fiction, horror, and haunting imagery feels very reminiscent of the Alien franchise. After the success of Alien: Romulus, there is clearly more of an appetite for a science-fiction horror story with compelling visual cinematography. The trailer for Ash is intentionally light on plot details as it instead strives to leave a strong visual and tonal impact on the viewer, an impact that teases cosmic and horrifying possibilities for these characters.

From González's role as Auggie Salazar in Netflix's 3 Body Problem to Paul's role as Caleb Nichols in Westworld seasons 3 and 4, both actors are experienced at bringing thought-provoking science-fiction stories to life. They will continue to do so in Ash, which is fittingly produced by Blomkamp. His directorial feature film debut, District 9, remains a particularly unsettling work of science-fiction, and Ash is poised to continue following in those footsteps.
Our Take On The Ash Trailer
Ash's Trailer Has The Right Amount Of Intrigue
Eiza Gonzalez as Auggie in 3 Body Problem
Ash looks like it has all the ingredients to please fans of science-fiction horror and the Alien franchise with its original story. There is already a palpable sense of mystery as González's character tries to piece together why all her crew members were killed and whether she can trust Paul's character. What she sees in the sky at the end of the trailer suggests that these questions are only the tip of the iceberg, though, and that she is on the precipice of a more consequential discovery in Ash.

Flying Lotus recently returned to music with the new songs "Garmonbozia" and "Ingo Swann," but it seems his main focus at the moment is still film — today, we get the teaser trailer for FlyLo's new sci-fi movie Ash.
Flying Lotus made his directorial debut with 2017's body horror feature Kuso, then directed a segment of the 2019 horror anthology V/H/S/99. Now we get a look at his next full-length feature, a sci-fi horror starring Eiza González and Aaron Paul, who are replacing original leads Tessa Thompson and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
Ash is coming to theatres next year through RLJE Films, which also distributed nasties like Mandy and Bone Tomahawk. After that, Ash will be available on horror streamer Shudder.

The first trailer for Ash, Flying Lotus’ highly anticipated 2025 sci-fi thriller, has arrived, offering a chilling glimpse into the aftermath of a catastrophic event on a mysterious planet. The film stars Aaron Paul and Eiza González as Brion and Riya, two strangers thrust together after Riya awakens to find her entire crew slaughtered. As the sole survivor on the eerie, purple-hued planet, Riya’s rescue by Brion sets the stage for a harrowing test of trust as they battle for survival against unknown forces.
Co-starring Iko Uwais, Kate Elliott, and Beulah Koale, Ash follows the characters’ struggle to decipher what happened to Riya’s crew and how to escape the planet alive. Paul and González stepped into their roles after replacing Tessa Thompson and Joseph Gordon-Levitt in 2023. Directed and scored by Flying Lotus, Ash marks his return to feature filmmaking following his 2017 debut, Kuso, which brought a blend of body horror and dark humor to the screen.
In the teaser, Flying Lotus showcases his signature surreal and psychedelic visuals, with flashes of eerie landscapes and disturbing imagery that hint at a deeper psychological and physical ordeal for the characters. The film is expected to combine elements of horror and science fiction, offering a tense, immersive experience for viewers. Alongside the narrative, Flying Lotus’ original score is set to heighten the atmosphere of terror and mystery, much like his work in Kuso.
Written by Jonni Remmler, Ash is slated for a 2025 theatrical release, followed by streaming on Shudder. With its combination of sci-fi terror, psychological tension, and Flying Lotus’ unique artistic vision, Ash is shaping up to be one of the standout films of next year.
After staying away from music for a while, Flying Lotus recently released his tracks “Garmonbozia” and “Ingo Swann.” But FlyLo’s music isn’t keeping him away from his cinematic endeavors. In 2017, Flying Lotus made his directorial debut with the bugged-out body horror feature Kuso. FlyLo also directed a segment of the 2019 horror anthology V/H/S/99, and his next movie is on the way. Two years ago, Flying Lotus announced that Baby Driver star Eiza González and Breaking Bad great Aaron Paul would star in his sci-fi film Ash. (They’re replacing Tessa Thompson and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, the film’s original leads.) Now, the Ash trailer is out.
Ash is coming out next year. First, the movie will arrive in theaters through RLJE Films, the niche distributor responsible for gnarly genre fare like Mandy and Bone Tomawhawk. After that, Ash will be available on Shudder, the horror-centric streaming service. Here’s the official plot synopsis:
On the mysterious planet of Ash, Riya (González) awakens to find her crew slaughtered. When a man named Brion (Paul) arrives to rescue her, an ordeal of psychological and physical terror ensues while Riya and Brion must decide if they can trust one another to survive.
The minute-long looks about as trippy and intense as you’d imagine. We should also be making a bigger deal out of the fact that the cast includes motherfucking Iko Uwais from The Raid, one of the all-time great screen fighters. In the teaser, we see him punching and kicking someone, and that’s enough for me right there. Check out the teaser below.
In the biggest acquisition to emerge so far at the nascent EFM, we understand Amazon Prime Video has sewn up a deal with XYZ for international rights to Eiza González (Baby Driver) and Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad) sci-fi thriller Ash, the sophomore feature from producer, rapper and filmmaker Flying Lotus (Kuso).
We hear this is a high-seven figure pact, nearing $10M. Talks had been underway for a little while and the deal closed up this week.
Gonzalez will play a woman who wakes up on a distant planet and finds the crew of her space station viciously killed. She must decide whether she can trust the man (Paul) sent to rescue her. Iko Uwais, Beulah Koale, and Kate Elliott also star. The movie is in post-production.

As we previously revealed, Flying Lotus is composing an original score for the movie, which is based on an original screenplay by Jonni Remmler. Nate Bolotin of XYZ Films and Matthew Metcalfe of GFC Films are producing, with Neill Blomkamp (District 9) and Echo Lake onboard as exec producers. XYZ Films is financing via its production fund backed by IPR.VC. and is also handling domestic sales.
Grammy winner Flying Lotus has six albums under his belt and made his feature directorial debut on Sundance movie Kuso. He most recently wrote, directed and scored a segment for the latest installment of the anthology franchise V/H/S/99.
Baby Driver and Ambulance actress González will next be seen in Benioff and Weiss series Three Body Problem for Netflix and Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare from Guy Ritchie and Jerry Bruckheimer.
Paul recently starred in Sundance sci-fi Dual, and is best known for ACM’s Breaking Bad and HBO’s Westworld.
