On October 27, 2024, an incident involving 70-year-old Lich Vu and an Oklahoma City police officer took place following a minor car accident. After the officer issued Vu a ticket, an argument ensued, during which Vu tapped the officer’s chest and told him to “shut up.” This interaction led the officer to forcibly bring Vu to the ground. Bodycam footage released by the Oklahoma City Police Department captured the incident, showing Vu being swiftly taken down, which resulted in him losing consciousness and sustaining severe injuries, including a brain bleed and a fractured neck.

Vu's family contends that the officer’s response was excessive for the situation, especially given Vu’s age. The police department stated that Vu was uncooperative, but his family questions the level of force applied. Currently, the officer involved is on administrative leave, and the incident is under review by the Oklahoma County District Attorney’s office.
