Iran-Saudi defence meeting: Generals discuss bilateral relations and cooperation

Saudi Arabia's top military chief is in Iran with a high-ranking delegation.

The Chief of General Staff of the Saudi Armed Forces is meeting his Iranian counterpart to discuss bilateral relations and defence cooperation.

The two countries last held talks on defense and regional issues in December of 2023. Iran and Saudi Arabia have been rivals over influence in the Middle East for the past 45 years.

Tohid Assadi, an Iranian affairs expert, told Al Jazeera that the meeting between the two armed forces chiefs could be considered a step forward in Iran-Saudi relations.
