The Discovery of the Tarim Mummies in China made news worldwide! In 1990, in the inhospitable region of northwest China, something unusual was discovered in the desert! As explorers investigated the dry and arid landscape, lodged within the sand were hundreds of wooden boats! But it was what was inside those boats which would leave everybody baffled! As archaeologists investigated further they found hundreds of mummified bodies with european facial features! The bodies were strikingly intact, but even more surprising was their age and origins. The dry and arid landscape had preserved them. Some were up to 4,000 years old, but a DNA test revealed a surprising result! The Tarim mummies belonged to a unique ancient group of people called the Ancient North Eurasians. Scientists call them a "ghost population" because there are no known direct descendants living today!
