OP2411-08-2
Commander for 2nd Battalion, Chernarus 10th Separate Tank Brigade, received a warning order from brigade command staff that a large separatist armored force was marching on the village of Chervonopopovka in North Zagoria with the clear intention of capturing the village. Chervonopopovka is located Less Than three km from the forward zone of 2nd Battalion, so a task force was assembled and ordered to hastily march on the village.

Radio reports from the two Scout BRDMs indicated that separatist forces had not yet reached town. The task force commander ordered Tank 1 and Tank 2 to take up a position on the west side of the village, with Tank 3 taking up the position on the southeast corner of the village.

2nd Squad was ordered to take up a position on the west side of the village, while Command Squad was ordered to dismount on a southern corner of Chervonopopovka. However, Command Squad was ambushed by a large enemy infantry counterforce, which used concentrated rifle and grenade fire to cut down on the strength of Command Squad.

Command Squad held against the enemy advance, preventing it from taking the whole of the town. But, casualties were mounting, so much so the commander folded in Recon Rifle Squad 1 into its ranks. Command Squad then commenced to advance into town, but was met with heavy fire from enemy infantry, including Spanish regulars, Wagner Group operators, and Russian militia.

Meanwhile, in the west, Tank 1 and Tank 2 fought off several attempts by the enemy to attack using heavy and light armor vehicles, augmenting their infantry attacks. 2nd Squad, on their own accord, moved to the far northeast corner of the village where 2nd Squad's BMP became stuck. 2nd Squad suffered repeated infantry attacks, and failed to shake loose their attackers and return to the village.

Casualties for Command Squad continued to mount to the point that Recon Rifle Squad 2 was folded into its ranks. In fact, Recon Rifle Squad 2 took overall command of the task force. The commander at this point began to consider withdrawing from Chervonopopovka. During this time Command Squad's BMP engaged and destroyed several light armored vehicles.

An enemy T-55 tank began its attack on the Northern edge of Chervonopopovka, running into a crossfire by two T-72 tanks and one T-34 tank. After a lengthy exchange of tank gunfire, the T-55 was destroyed.

Commander ordered 2nd Squad to abandon its BMP and move inside Chervonopopovka, where its remnants would be folded into Command Squad. Once that was done, Command Squad withdrew south towards relative safety where it rendezvoused with its BMP. By that time, enemy attacks had ceased.

Casualties were very heavy. Scout 1 BRDM and Scout 2 BRDM were both destroyed. Command Squad and Reinforcing Rifle Squad 1 were wiped out. Second Squad also was wiped out.

Field counts of enemy losses included four technicals, four BRDMs, three BTR-80As, three T-55 tanks and one BMP.

Command staffs for 2nd Battalion and for Brigade concluded that despite the heavy losses in infantry, the enemy was utterly defeated in its attempt to take over Chervonopopovka.
