Tony Todd Candyman and Final Destination actor dies aged 69

Tony Todd, renowned for his roles in Candyman and Final Destination, has passed away at 69. The Transformers and Star Trek actor died of natural causes at his Los Angeles home in Marina del Rey.

Known for his captivating performances in films like The Crow, Night of the Living Dead, and The Rock, Todd also had a respected stage career, starring in Broadway’s Aida. Tributes have poured in for the beloved star with a four-decade-long career.

Virginia Madsen, his co-star in Candyman, paid tribute on Instagram, calling him “a truly poetic man” with “a gentle soul.” New Line Cinema, producer of Final Destination, also honored him: “The industry has lost a legend.” Todd’s manager, Jeff Goldberg, and Rel Dowdell, who directed him in Changing the Game, expressed heartfelt admiration for the actor’s remarkable talent and character.

Todd was born in Washington, DC, on December 4, 1954, and studied at the University of Connecticut and Eugene O’Neill National Theatre Institute, which laid the foundation for his career in acting. He debuted in Sleepwalk (1986), but his most iconic role was as the hook-wielding ghost in Candyman (1992), a character he reprised in sequels, including the 2021 version co-written by Jordan Peele. Todd also portrayed William Bludworth in the Final Destination series, cementing his legacy in horror and beyond.
